The kit I Use

Hi everyone!!

Here you can see the kit i prefer for my sidemount dives.

Before i start it is good you to know that there are several modifications depending on the type of sidemount dive you are planning to do.

This setup is a basic configuration for single and twin cylinder sidemount diving that i mostly use for my sidemount dives and courses.

Harness

This is a harness that we make here in Athens Greece.
A student and friend of mine spent some time to design it for us.

The MOKEN sidemount harness.

This is just a different copy of other harnesses that are available in the market but with Greek signature.

When we started we wanted something that will be easy to adjust in any body type, to be adjustable for women, to fit on any wing trying to keep the good things of a DIR one piece harness backplate.

The bungee rope that you use depends on the cylinders size - capacity

Thin for cylinders up to 12ltr steel and thick for larger.

D-rings

I prefare just one metal low profile D-ring and a ''slide'' one, made by bungeerope and tiewraps.
This helps a lot to have the perfect cylindres trim, especialy for the aluminums.

Wing

When Technical or Trimix diving in addition with my drysuit i use the HOLLIS SMS100 single bladder wing in combination with my MOKEN harness.

This is the DIR approach of redundancy!!!

Regulators

The picture bellow shows the Single Cylinder Setup.
In case of drysuit you have just to add one more LP inflation hose.

The picture bellow shows the Twin Cylinder Setup

The regulator with the 2m blue miflex hose is the regulator for the Right cylinder & and the other one is the backup regulator with a 55cm short hose for the left cylinder.

Both configurations are following the Hogarthian principle that the long hose is always to the right and the backup on the left post.

Cylinders

Steel 12ltrs for most of my dives.
They can carry more gas and they are very helpful with the cylinders triming.

I would like to focus on that there are no straps.

Hose clamps are more reliable and secure than straps. On the other hand straps do not allow the proper dog clip configuration and adjustment on the cylinder.

The other think that you will notice is that on the left side cylinder there are two pieces of bungeerope instead one on the left side cylinder, and this is because i need to tuck and secure my long hose on that cylinder.

The most important is the valves type & direction. T type valves because they give you place for the bungeerope and rubber knobs than the plastic because the plastic ones are more easy to brake in case of a crash. Be sure that the knobs are protected looking up and close to the body.

The 232 bar valves are ideal because you need less time to screw the regulators to the 1st stage.

Other equipment

In the picture bellow you can see other equipment that i  use.

From left to right:

1) At least one back up light. My favorite for now is the Light For Me

2) UWATECK bottomtimer as backup

3) Dive Rite pocket with dog clip for tables, two dubleenders. one mouthpiece, tiewraps and other useful equipment

4) HALCYON wetnotes

5) A kit with linearrows and cookies

6) At least one safety spool

7) Trilobite cuting tool

The most important with this primary light is that there is no cable to worry on were and how to place it

9) SUUNTO compass with bungee

10) Dive computer from Heinrich Weikamp OSTC N2
